Growing up in the middle of nowhere, I often had to find ways to make my own fun, and gravitated towards art as I always found joy in bringing ideas from my mind to life. Drawing is one of the only hobbies you can get away with doing in class, so in school I was the kid whose notes were filled with more doodles than words.
In 2015, at the age of 18, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The 3 surgeries I needed and the upheaval of my life greatly altered my trajectory, as well as my perspective on life and the world.
Eventually, I came to realize that life was too short for me to not push the limits of my talents and bring my wildest creative ideas to life, with as much attention to detail and refinement as possible.
A few months after the first procedure, I attended the University of Cincinnati's industrial design program until 2021. During college, I did 2 internships at Bald Mountain Rustics in 2019 and 2020. It's a small rustic furniture business that served as my introduction to wood carving and furniture making.
It was there that I fell in love with woodworking, so much so that in 2022 I decided to pursue my own carving career while working various blue collar contracting/ home improvement jobs.
The only accolades under my belt are being voted as the class clown in my high school superlatives and winning the Collexart gallery Abstract Mind 2024 purchase award. My plan was to make unique, highly refined pieces first and figure out how to sell them later, and I'm still in the figuring it out stage right now.
I want to leave as many beautiful things on this planet as I can while I'm here. I want to leave things that inspire joy in others, as well as foster the desire to spend a lot of time and care creating beautiful things themselves.
