"Flowing State" was a passion project made from the most beautiful wood I've ever seen, and the first piece I made when I started Liquid Dream Creations. When I saw this six foot long slab of ambrosia maple, I knew that I had to make something truly special out of it. While I started working on it as a coffee table, the carving became so complex that it turned out better suited as a sculpture. I plan on attaching it to a metal stand so both sides of the carving can be fully appreciated.
It's exceedingly rare to find a slab of maple (or any other wood, really) with this many ambrosia patches and tiger stripes, and I've never seen a slab with this many burls scattered around the whole surface. I wanted to bring these features out as much as I possibly could, which led to me sanding it all to 3,000 grit before finishing it with hard wax oil and giving it a thorough polishing.
I consider this sculpture to be the greatest example of the kind of work I do, and the first I've made that truly encapsulates my unadulterated artistic vision.
