This sculpture continues to explore the same concept as the previous, with its fantastic grain that warps and melts along the subtler carvings on its face. The “horns” on its top formed naturally, so it felt right to let them be the starting point and pull their lines deeper into the heart of the piece, along with preserving the defiant knot on the right side.
Once again, I pulled the mirrored contours from the front of this piece into the back, and let them ripple out from the center as though they were made of a liquid following the rules of a form of gravity unlike the kind we experience. The depth of the transforming features in its grain makes it appear as though a film of metallic oil floats on top of the liquid, catching every ray of light that hits it.
